The first stage of the Springbrook Hemp House has recently been completed!
This 2-bedroom hemp house was designed for a single mum and her boys. It was a very budget driven project to be economical and affordable to design and build a custom natural, healthy, sustainable + harmonious house. We also integrated feng shui into the design.
To keep costs down, a few ‘healthy’ design features were adjusted by the client + builder during the project. Some cost saving benefits meant some sustainability wins however with a lot of reuse for existing windows, doors, floor finishes and timber that the builder had stored.
Utilising the skillset of the builders meant more steel work over timber being incorporated into the build and engineering design, which needs to be considered appropriately around hemp. As well, the roofing structure and costs were lightened by the builder’s choice of the insulated roofing panel (however this can be an issue for fire/insurance so not advisable).
The client has recently revalued her property and now ready for the ‘stage 2’ extensions we had masterplanned to add on: a new bedroom/ yoga room, verandah + accessible walkway to create a home that could be used for respite care.
This will allow her new opportunities to start her own business from home by turning the house into a respite care home (subject to relevant approvals) and head towards more financial independence from a strategically designed home and investment. One of her sons is now also beginning some training in disability care to offer further opportunities towards this goal together.
Whilst its taken a few years to get it to this point – its developing into a worthwhile project for her and we wish her all the best!
