Hemp House design for Sustainable Living Expo

One of our conceptual designs for a modern, healthy family house made using a natural ‘hemp-crete’ building methodology, has been included in the Sustainable Living Expo that opened last night at Beaudesert.

‘Home: A look at Sustainable Living,’ is a design and architecture exhibition focused on exploring design solutions that reflect the values of the Scenic Rim. The exhibition was opened to an audience of over a hundred people and featured all the works at The Centre, Beaudesert.  A discussion on ‘Future Directions’ was held by well known architects, planners and builders including, Lindsay Clare, Emma Scragg, Scott Turner and Rod Anderson.

The ‘Scenic Rim’ hemp house design presented, demonstrates sustainable, healthy & harmonious design principles on a typical acreage site.  It created a micro-community on the site with the integration of multiple low-density dwellings and provided opportunities for the various stages of home ownership and life.  It used Hemp Masonry Construction (hemp-crete), which is a highly sustainable, renewable, regenerative crop with no pesticides that is carbon positive and ties to the Scenic Rim’s agricultural history.  It can be built by the local community, enhancing social connections.

As well, the design of the building and its materials and finishes integrated, healthy, passive solar design and low-tow living principles.  It further advocated healthy spaces by awareness and careful placement of many electrical items, which have electro-magnetic fields, detrimental to human health when in areas where you spend a lot of time.  Harmonious spaces were enhanced by integrating modern feng shui principles into the design, which promoted a positive energetic environment and intention to live in spaces that promote good health and wellbeing.

Additional sources of income were available through the design for separate dwellings (Studio & Tiny Houses) and infrastructure designed in to support them.  This provided opportunities to embrace changing working conditions like, remote access/ home businesses and also tied into the tourism market of the local Scenic Rim region and showcases its beauty.  Permaculture principles are also prioritised in the overall site design.

The combination of all these principles aimed to create a design for a healthier, more harmonious and sustainable life for people living in the Scenic Rim.
